Marionette lines—Inland Empire’s hot, dry, sunny climate makes them quite common. Marionette lines can make a happy person look sad. They can make you look old when you still feel vibrant and full of energy. They routinely appear when you’re in your 40s, but marionette lines can begin as early as your 20s or 30s. What causes marionette lines? How can you eliminate them? Do marionette line fillers work? Do you need a surgical procedure? Which one is the best option for you?

Why Do You Get Marionette Lines?

Marionette lines appear for several reasons. One is aging skin. Inland Empire weather is tough on your skin. Then there are your expressions. The depressor anguli oris muscles (DAOM) that run from the corners of your mouth to your chin help you express feelings such as sadness and anger. If these muscles become strong, they pull the corners of your mouth down, causing marionette lines. Getting marionette lines in your 20s or early 30s could show that your muscles are a little too strong.

That probably varies from case to case. But it’s worth noting that The Cleveland Clinic stated:

“Various cosmetic treatments can reduce the severity of marionette lines and improve the look of your skin. Surgery is the only long-lasting solution for marionette lines.”

Safe, Cost-Saving Methods Lower the Price of Your Best Facelift

As I outlined in “How to Make a $27,000 Beverly Hills-Quality Facelift Cost Much Less” and “Want the Best Facelift? Small Innovations Can Improve Your Results” , there are steps a facial plastic surgeon can take to reduce your costs AND improve your results. The “Small Innovations” article also highlights ways your surgeon can improve your healing, an important way to maximize your results.

One innovation emphasized in the “Beverly Hills-Quality Facelift” article is using local anesthesia plus oral sedation. The Past President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery called this “the safest method available.” Consider: dentists use lidocaine every day without issues. In contrast, Joan Rivers’ death was attributed to the popular IV sedative Propofol.

The State of Florida examined 600,000 surgical procedures performed in doctors’ offices. They attributed many serious problems to the use of general anesthesia or IV sedation, but none to local anesthesia plus oral sedation. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality published “The Wild West: Patient Safety in Office-Based Anesthesia.” It highlighted cases like these:

A 27-year-old woman from Alabama died from respiratory failure shortly after returning home from office-based breast augmentation. Her death was attributed to effects of sedation administered during the procedure.
A 28-year-old woman from Virginia Beach, Virginia developed malignant hyperthermia during office anesthesia for breast augmentation. No dantrolene [an established treatment drug] was available in the office setting. By the time she was transferred to an emergency department, her temperature was 107 degrees. She subsequently died.

It’s clear how local anesthesia plus oral sedation is safer. How does it also cut costs? Surgeons who use general anesthesia or Propofol for in-office surgeries are required to have a licensed anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist on their surgical team solely to control their anesthesia and monitor their vital signs. They must keep a local hospital on alert. You must pay both the hospital fee and the anesthesiologist's or nurse’s fee.

Those extra safety steps are not needed or required if you have local anesthesia plus an oral sedative to help you sleep through your facelift. You save money.

Not every facial plastic surgeon has the experience needed to use local anesthesia. To avoid any possible problems, surgeons often administer no more lidocaine than will last for 2 hours or so. After performing 6,000 facelifts in my career, I can do a full, deep plane facelift within that time limit without hurrying. Colleagues with high levels of experience can do that, too. But surgeons who have not performed hundreds or thousands of facelifts may not feel as confident in their ability to do the procedure in 2 hours. General anesthesia or IV sedation agents like Propofol require more costly supervision, but they provide surgeons the luxury of more time to complete the procedure. Unfortunately, you pay the difference.

You Can Afford Your Best Facelift with a High-Value Surgeon

As the research shows, your face has real value. What you really want is to look younger and better for years at a cost you can manage. You can’t get that option from every facial plastic or plastic surgeon, so it’s important to choose the right one.

A “surgeon to the stars” can perform a great facelift. But can you afford the prices that the wealthy and famous pay? New or inexperienced surgeons can save you money. You may get good results, but if they’re not prepared for something in your anatomy or condition, will you get the great new look you want? Quite possibly not.

Any facelift that doesn’t truly improve your looks costs too much. You can receive real value from a talented, experienced facial plastic surgeon who charges affordable rates. It’s far better to pay a little more for a good facelift than to pay less for disappointing results.

Researchers have conducted many studies on how people’s looks impact their success in life. I hope you’ll find this knowledge as interesting as I did.

People Form Their First Impression of You by Your Facial Appearance

You’ve probably heard how long first impressions can last. Because we all like to be right, most of us automatically look for evidence to prove our initial opinions are correct. However, anyone who’s ever fallen for a scam knows how convincing dishonest people can be.

What’s the secret to making an excellent first impression? Princeton psychology professor Alexander Todorov, author of Face Value: The Irresistible Influence of First Impressions, wrote:

“People routinely make various trait judgments from facial appearance, and such judgments affect important social outcomes… There is abundant research in social psychology about the effects of facial appearance on social outcomes.”

Studies show people quickly judge character by looking at faces. Why? Research by Drs. Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky revealed that people often use shortcuts to quickly size up a person or situation. These shortcuts help us draw accurate conclusions when we lack information or time.

For instance, influence expert Dr. Robert Cialdini reported that a jewelry shop owner leaving for vacation asked his assistant to offer a 50% discount on some slow-moving products. When he returned, he found they had sold out. Misunderstanding his instructions, his assistant doubled the price of those items. Convinced they must be of higher quality than the rest, customers quickly bought them up.

By the same token, smart restaurant owners have employees park their cars in front on traditionally slow days. They know if it looks like there are no customers, potential patrons will assume the food isn’t good or the price is too high and eat somewhere else.

Aside from shortcuts like “higher-priced items are better” or “busy restaurants have delicious food,” people often determine the kind of person you are by looking at your face. Cialdini further wrote:

“A halo effect occurs when one positive characteristic of a person dominates the way that person is viewed by others. The evidence is now clear that physical attractiveness is often such a characteristic. Research has shown that we automatically assign to good-looking individuals such favorable traits as talent, kindness, honesty, and intelligence.”

When socializing, we usually want to be around attractive, friendly people. That’s true whether we’re looking for a friend or a romantic partner.

A Better-Looking Face Often Leads to a Higher Paycheck

Multiple studies have revealed that attractive people can earn more money throughout their careers. According to Hofstra University psychology professor Comila Shahani-Denning:

“A review of the literature supports the notion that being physically attractive is an advantage when applying for a job.”

This fact has continually proved true since social psychologists and economists started researching the question 50 years ago. Our preference for attractive faces in general appears to be hard-wired. On the job, good-looking people receive greater benefits than an increased likelihood of getting hired. As Cialdini wrote:

“The advantage given to attractive workers extends past hiring day to payday. Economists examining U.S. and Canadian samples have found that attractive individuals get paid an average of 12 to 14 percent more than their unattractive co-workers.”

These days, who wouldn’t want a higher paycheck?

Business Success Comes Easier to Attractive People

Good-looking people often make excellent salespeople. How do looks make a difference in sales success? Surprising results came from an unexpected industry – pharmaceutical sales.

Several medications may achieve similar results for various conditions. Drug companies employ salespeople to provide physicians with samples, answer questions, and persuade them to prescribe specific drugs. Of course, doctors should focus on their patients’ needs and ignore other considerations. Could pharmaceutical salespeople’s looks influence them?

Arizona State University professor Cheryl Jarvis asked physicians to grade the appearance of the drug company salespeople who called on them. Then, she researched which medications they prescribed. It turned out that the higher a salesperson’s attractiveness rating, the more prescriptions doctors wrote for their company’s medications. Even physicians striving to be objective could not escape the pull of a good-looking face.

Executives also benefit from looking better. Human Resource Management reports that researchers examined all 861 of the CEOs who served in S&P 500 companies over a 10-year period. First, they rated their facial attractiveness. Then, they looked at paychecks. With few exceptions, they discovered “the effect of CEO facial attractiveness on compensation is not only robust but also economically significant.”

Salespeople and executives achieve more success when they look their best. Can this same effect benefit you?

Facelift Inflation—Does Looking Younger for Years Have to Cost a Fortune in Inland Empire?

Inflation has become part of our daily lives. While we hear that inflation is easing, we keep seeing higher prices. Now, we see that facial plastic surgery prices are surging. However, the procedures haven’t changed over the last three years. The research-proven benefits of looking younger—increased popularity, better job prospects, more credibility, and higher pay—haven’t changed. But the prices certainly have. People still want to look younger and more attractive, but facelifts, rhinoplasties, and blepharoplasties cost a lot more in many places. Why? Let’s explore the reasons.

What’s Fueling Facelift Inflation?

The New York Times recently published an article titled, “And Now, the $200,000 Face-Lift.” One prominent New York City facial plastic surgeon is actually charging that much for a comprehensive facelift. But he’s not alone. The Times article speaks of a plastic surgeon who operates in Los Angeles and Chicago whose basic facelift costs $50,000 and charges “well into six figures for a more extensive procedure.” It also quotes a facial plastic surgeon whose facelift costs $40,000 to $50,000 in Beverly Hills.

You can certainly find board-certified plastic and facial plastic surgeons who perform outstanding facelifts at reasonable rates. So, how do some famous surgeons justify charging exorbitant prices?

“It’s a little like the label on clothes, or if the price of the wine is more, it’s better,” said one Beverly Hills facial plastic surgeon quoted in The New York Times article. “Is facial surgery worth the super-high tariff? Only the consumer can decide that.”

A facelift is like “commissioning an artist to make a very beautiful painting for you…At first blush, it may seem like a big number, but I think of this as a question of value, not of cost….Your face is your job, it’s your love life, it’s your identity,” according to a Manhattan plastic surgeon quoted in The Times who charges up to $200,000 for a facelift.

Research shows that many assume that a higher price means a better product or procedure. It’s one of the reasons people spend more on the same product with a famous label. And please don’t get me wrong—if you can afford to hire a celebrity plastic surgeon and pay their astronomical prices, I’m sure you’ll get a good facelift. But the fact is that you don’t have to pay such high rates to get great results.

Do You Have to Pay a High Price to Get an Outstanding Facelift or Blepharoplasty?

No, you don’t. As I discussed in my article “How to Make a $27,000 Beverly Hills-Quality Facelift Cost Much Less,” published at LookYounger.News, it’s certainly possible to get an outstanding facelift without paying an exorbitant price. The first way is to get your facelift in Inland Empire. Essentially, you want to choose a board-certified facial plastic surgeon who has performed many facelifts with good results—anywhere in the US that’s not an extremely affluent community.

I was amazed to learn that in wealthy Orange County, surgeons are charging upwards of $17,000 for the same blepharoplasty procedure for which I charge $6,000. A natural-looking but limited SMAS facelift in Orange County costs $17,000 or more whereas I charge $10,000. Do these expensive surgeons have more experience? I’ve performed more than 6,000 facelifts. That’s the equivalent of doing 5 facelifts a week, every week without a break for more than 23 years! Do they have higher qualifications? I taught facial plastic surgery for years at USC’s Keck School of Medicine. In fact, the surgeons I trained could now be working at those high-priced celebrity practices.

A little facelift inflation is understandable. Surgical supplies and medications cost a little more now. Labor rates are about the same. So why are facelift prices rising so dramatically? Could it be because people expect to pay more now? Are some highly skilled surgeons motivated by something in addition to their desire to help their patients?

Can You Beat Facelift Inflation and Get Terrific Results in Inland Empire?

Here, I offer three key factors that can help you get a younger look that lasts for years at a price you can afford.

1. Location, Location, Location

If something unexpected occurs, they may need more time to decide how to overcome that challenge and provide good results. Many states require that a licensed anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist be present to monitor your safety under anesthesia. A local hospital must be kept ready if complications arise. Both considerable costs are added to your facelift price.

Nowadays, many surgeons prefer IV sedation, such as propofol. Patients under propofol wake up feeling good, which improves their surgical experience. But propofol has its own dangers. A New York state medical board called Joan Rivers’ death a “predictable complication” of using propofol. Like general anesthesia, many states require that a licensed anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist monitor your vital signs during surgery. Your facelift cost will include their charges.
