Fillers in Inland Empire are popular for good reason. Every year, an increasing number of people use Bellafill, Radiesse® or Juvéderm® Voluma to restore their facial volume. Substantial improvements in fat grafting make fat transfer a great option for many. It makes perfect sense. The US population is aging. Many are determined to stay healthy. That often means losing weight. But while weight loss can be great for your health and figure, it can take a real toll on your face.
Fat pads under your facial skin often help you look younger and more attractive. They give your features a pleasing, rounded look. Losing too much facial fat can make us start to look old. Aging is a major factor. After you reach the age of 25, you lose about a tablespoon of fat every year. That’s 8 ounces – a full cup of fat by age 41. Lines start to appear. By the time you reach 57, you’ve lost 2 full cups of facial fat. Lines may deepen. You may notice your features getting sharper and less attractive. If you diet to lose weight, hollows in your cheeks may appear.
If losing facial volume is costing you some of your youthful attractiveness, fat transfer or fillers provide a quick and easy solution. Is fat grafting better for you? Or would fillers make more sense in your case? If so, which one will provide the results you want? Let’s take a look at some advantages and disadvantages of each. Then we’ll consider the best way to rejuvenate your face.
Are temporary fillers the right solution for volume loss?
Juvéderm® and Restylane® get a lot of press as facial fillers. They’re easy, well tolerated and provide instant results. Unfortunately, those great results are gone too quickly. Most last around a year. Juvéderm® Voluma, designed for restoring volume, fades away after 12-18 months.
So, if you want to look terrific for a special occasion, hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane® are just what you need. Unfortunately, around a year after your injections that youthful look will start to disappear. Hollows, lines and sharp features will return. To maintain that attractive look, you’ll have to schedule injections about every 12 months. That gets expensive. You can spend $4,000 to $5,000 – the cost of some surgical procedures – just to restore your face’s volume.
Fat Grafting often costs less and lasts longer
The BeautiFill fat transfer procedure can be a better way to add volume at a lower overall cost. Unlike fillers that last 12-18 months, fat grafting provides attractive results that can last for years. You can “reset the clock” and get a younger, more attractive look that lasts.
BeautiFill is different from traditional fat grafting. Both involve taking fat cells from places where you have too much and injecting them where you need volume in your face. You need a good supply of healthy fat cells to do this. So, if you’re planning to have liposuction, you’ll want to have your fat transfer procedure first. Best candidates for fat grafting are usually people from 40-69 with sufficient body fat levels. Many over 70 have less available fat.
BeautiFill is designed to ensure that the greatest number of fat cells survive (“take”) in their new location. It solves a longstanding issue in fat transfer procedures. Traditional fat grafting can be very hard on delicate fat cells. They’re vacuumed out of the body with liposuction. Your fat cells are then washed, spun in a centrifuge and packed by hand into syringes. All that time they’re exposed to outside air, which is loaded with microbes. When your immune system kills those microbes, many transplanted fat cells will die as well.
Traditional fat transfer results in “take” rates of just 50-70%. Those low cell survival rates mean that your doctor may have to inject more fat cells than you’d want, resulting in an over-filled look for a time.
The BeautiFill system is a big improvement. It uses a patented laser tip to melt fat you want to lose and carefully draw it into the system. It cleanses your fat cells and gently moves them into syringes so your doctor can inject them where you need volume. In studies, up to 95% of grafted cells in fat transfer procedures survived.
After BeautiFill treatment you can return home with a younger, more attractive look right away. That benefit was once reserved for short-term fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane®.
Your next best option: Long-lasting fillers
Not everyone is a good candidate for fat grafting. If you’re not, consider long-lasting fillers, sometimes called “permanent fillers.” While they’re not truly a permanent solution, some last a lot longer than Juvéderm®, Voluma and Restylane®.
Bellafill is the longest-lasting filler outside of your own fat cells. While Radiesse® lasts about 18 months, Bellafill is FDA approved for filling nasolabial folds for up to 5 years. It could last even longer. So, while a vial of Bellafill costs more than other fillers, it’s actually more economical. It certainly doesn’t cost 3 times more per vial than Radiesse® or Juvéderm® Voluma, but should last 3 times longer.
And who doesn’t want to look younger for years?
Best way to achieve a younger, more attractive look with fillers and fat transfer
When lines and wrinkles begin to appear, many think of injecting fillers as a fast way to solve the problem. If you’re just getting rid of a line or two, that may be a good idea. But if you try to keep filling lines as they appear, you may soon find that your face is out of balance. Some areas are full, others have hollows. Part of your face looks young while other parts are showing their age. This is not the best way to go.
The best idea is to meet with a qualified facial plastic surgeon and develop a facial rejuvenation plan. He or she can spot areas that need volume and help you take years off your face without a facelift using fat transfer or fillers. If you need a facelift, your doctor may also recommend adding volume to areas surgical procedures can’t touch, like making up for bone loss in your cheeks and improving the malar area in front of them. You may also need volume in your temples.
