While getting older is inevitable, troublesome cosmetic signs of aging can be corrected, restoring your natural and confident appearance. At STC Plastic Surgery in Ontario, CA, we offer procedures to achieve the goal of rejuvenated facial appearance for our valued patients.
It’s often said that person’s eyes are one of the first features others notice about them. If your eyes look tired and aged, this can create an over-all weary facial aesthetic. However, Dr. Brian Machida can assist with an eyelid lift to create a youthful facial aesthetic.
An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is kind of exactly what it sounds like: cosmetic surgery that tightens the skin around the eyes, ultimately eliminating drooping eyelids, puffy bags, and dark circles. Unfortunately, age, stress, poor genes, and other daily hassles can create wear and tear on our bodies and faces. An eyelid lift is an available option to counteract these negative side effects of getting older.
Depending on your specific wants and needs, the eyelid surgery may differ from patient to patient. For example, some individuals choose only to have surgery performed on their upper or lower eyelids, while others opt for both. During your initial consultation with the doctor, it will be determined what will work best for your post-surgery goals.
As with any cosmetic surgery, it is imperative for the patient to be mentally, physically, and emotionally stable. All potential patients should also have realistic expectations following the procedure. While your appearance will look younger than it did before, you will still look like you – just the best version of yourself!
What to Expect with Your Procedure
Conveniently, eyelid surgery is a relative pain and hassle-free experience, compared to a full facelift, which makes it so popular. There is no need to go to the hospital or even a different facility; the surgery is performed right in our office using local anesthesia.
Using either a scalpel or laser, the doctor will make incisions in the natural creases of your eyelids, before removing the extra skin. Depending on your custom treatment plan, the doctor may remove or contour the fat around your eyes, too. Generally, the entire process—from start to finish—takes around two hours.
For recovery, it is best to be prepared to take a couple of days off work following surgery. Once you are home, ice packs can be used to help reduce the swelling. You may want to have eyedrops on hand and do your best to avoid direct sunlight. If you do have to go out, wear large sunglasses to conceal your eyes.
Once you have completely healed, you can expect firm and youthful-looking skin around the eyes. Droopy eyelids and excessive skin will be gone. You will still look like you and have a natural appearance, but you will also appear awake and refreshed.
When the surgery is performed by a skilled and trained professional, negative side effects are less likely to occur. Rare complications may include the following:
- Dry eyes
- Double vision
- Swelling
- Bleeding
- Infection
- The inability to close the upper eyelid
As for the overall price of the surgery, it is difficult to estimate how much your surgery will cost, as different individuals choose different surgeries. However, during your consultation, the doctor will be able to give you a more accurate figure of what you can expect to spend.
Getting older should never feel like a bad thing, especially when it comes to the way you look. If you have drooping eyelids, bags, or dark circles making you look older than you feel, consider an eyelid lift!
